Trail Snow Condition Updates
Want better trails? Please help by going out for a few hours and cutting back overhanging brush and trees leaning (even slightly) into the trail. Look at the brush guards on the Tucker groomer (in the upper right photo). It can't pull that nice snow from the side of the trails into the worn areas if the operator is dodging trees.
Also, consider throwing loose rocks off the trail - instead of just driving around them. New Durham's Powder Mill Snowmobile Club asks for a "toll" of three rocks thrown - per ride! How about it here in Alton?
Understand, a handful of working club members is doing 95% of the trail work now - for hundreds of riding only club members! I am sure you have noticed the year to year improvements they have made in our club's trail system, but they can not do it all alone. Please grab your saw and riding buddies - and go out for an afternoon of lumberjack fun.
Expansion of East Alton and West Alton trail system? Riders ask about these areas and we would love upgrade our system in those parts of town. What we need are knowledgeable local riders and friends of landowners to make it happen. The first step ifs for someone familiar with each area to contact landowners for permission to cut or improve a snowmobile trail across their section. Then we can work on coming up with volunteers, equipment and funds to make it happen. E-mail info@mountmajorsnowmobileclub.com if you have the contacts to help make this happen.
