September 8 2026 Meeting Minutes
Minutes, 9-8-2026 – Mount Major Snowmobile Club
8 members present
Grooming
- 430 hours allocated last year, 270 hours used. In Dollars, this was allocation of $27.5k and hours used meant we received $17k
- 390 hours requested this year for grooming
- Need to train additional groomers in order to get the hours we are allocated
o Folks need to take the online course first, get certified, then spend time riding along with experienced groomers to learn the equipment and how to properly groom the trail.
o If you are interested, please attend our monthly meeting and we can discuss. Note: grooming mostly occurs at night, so ability to stay focused at night is needed.
o If you would like to take the online course, let us know and we can get the information to you.
Grant in Aid
- Tucker
o Tucker going out next week to Track Inc for servicing
o $34k worth of maintenance work
§ State is going to pay for $27k of this
§ Club on hook for $6,800 (so extra donations on top of club membership is highly appreciated)
o Have budget for new lights & cameras for Tucker. $2400 is the quote we received and thus the budgeted amount. We will do the work ourselves and look to be below that.
Decking
- Jones Field
o Old plywood, at end of life, will replace all of the plywood. 20 sheets of 3/8” plywood, ripped in half to make 2’by8’ pieces.
- Grant in Aid
o Mount Straightback & Mount Major
§ 3 New bridges - shortcut Straightback to Mt Major. Grant in Aid will cover. $1470 allocated (60 boards at $24.50), excavator & fuel $1000, nails $139 (passload)
Snow Roller
- New, 7’ wide, uses tires to pack down the early snowfall
- Light enough that the UTV should be able to pull. Has rack for concrete blocks, so we can add weight when pulling with the Tucker
Work Parties
- Some members request these to be scheduled. None scheduled at the moment, keep an eye on Facebook to see when they are scheduled
- If the club is going to use the Tucker on corridor 305, then 305 needs to be widened to make it easier to groom. At the moment, need to reduce speed in many areas to avoid trees
Grass Drags
- There was some interest in the spring from our younger members, but unsure if they are already volunteering or not
- Will check to see if the organizers are still looking for people. 3 people at meeting expressed interest in working the event
Kiosks
- Locations desired
o Route 28, where Corridor 22 and 305 meet
o End of Alton Mountain Road (John Geleas Property) where parking is for hiking and snowmobiling
o Sand Pit at end of Jesus Valley Road
o Main Landing – Robert’s property
- Question if the funds are available to construct
- Would like signs with 2 4x4 posts in the ground, a plywood back board, and a small roof over the top
